Broadlands was built in 1851 by Phillippe De Heaume after he had bought the land from the Aubin family. The De Heaumes were retired ship owners; it is understood that the family had 5 shipping vessels and had interests in the Newfoundland Cod fisheries. Many Jersey islanders returned home wealthy and constructed large houses which became known by the locals as ‘Cod' Houses. The property was constructed in 1852 and stayed in the family until 1950. The current family acquired the property in the 1980s.

Standing adjacent to the medieval La Hougue Bie monument, which is one of the most important archaeological sites in Jersey dating back to the Neolithic period, the house is constructed in the Greek Revival style. The house has a wonderful set of reception rooms and many refined period features including cornicing and fireplaces. There are four entertaining rooms on the ground floor, with a family room on the lower ground floor together with a staff flat. The first floor has a good range of bedrooms and bathrooms including a master bedroom suite. The combination of reception rooms and bedrooms makes for an ideal family home that is also perfect for entertaining.

The gardens and grounds provide a beautiful setting for the house. The outbuildings, which have a pair of cottages, are ideal for staff or relatives and the walled garden has the advantage of a swimming pool. Approached via a sweeping gated driveway, a secondary entrance provides access to the original large courtyard.

Broadlands stands in mature gardens and grounds which lie mainly to the south and west of the house. The gardens include extensive lawned areas together with well stocked herbaceous and shrub borders, a feature avenue, an orchard, and vegetable garden. The original walled garden to the north of the outbuildings has a swimming pool and green houses.

Mains water and electricity, private drainage, oil fired central heating.
